Ready to give air-dry clay a try but don’t know where to start?

Ready to give clay a try but not ready to commit to an expensive pottery wheel and kiln? Me either! Over the school holidays I bought an air-dry clay kit to have a try with my little ones. I bought this kit off Amazon by Sculpd, the kit came with everything we needed and there was no need for a kiln or oven.

Top tip: the longer your clay takes to dry, the less chance it has of cracking, I find storing somewhere cool and flat like a cupboard / in a shoe box allowed for an even drying time.

We did have in stock some acrylic paint and acrylic paint pens which were helpful to add a bit of colour to our finished pieces of art. If you would like those here are the ones we used:

Mitoymia Acrylic Paint Pens (also amazing for painting pebbles, wood and glass)!

Shuttle Art Acrylic Paint

Once our clay had ran out I replace it using the Das Air Dry Clay, this seems to get the best overall review for air-dry clay and comes in a variety of colours.

Here is one of our first attempts we made a love heart decoration. If you are going to do this don’t forget to poke a hole in it so that you can hang your beautiful creations when you are finished!

Happy potting 🙂
